MVLB–Athlete's Profile: Joe Kauliakamoa

From the shores of my hometown, Honolulu, Hawai‘i, comes the setter for the Number One volleyball team in the nation: Joe Kauliakamoa (#8). Kauliakamoa was born in Honolulu to Joe and Debbie Kauliakamoa. Later on in life, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he made his hometown. Joe attended Palo Verde High School where he was a letter winner all four years. In 2006, he helped take his team to regional and state championships. For three consecutive years, he won the Region MVP. In those same years, he also won the Nevada State Player of the Year. Not only did he play club volleyball for High Line and Molten Warriors, but he also was on the USA Youth National Team, which traveled to Dominican Republic and Mexico in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, he joined the USA Junior National Team that traveled El Salvador in 2007 and 2008. Kauliakamoa has been playing for BYU since 2008, when he redshirted. In 2009, he played in 28 out of the 30 matches as a freshman. He recorded 43 kill assists, 5 aces, and 13 digs. In 2010, he had an outstanding career match where he tallied 6 kills, 3 digs, 2 block assists, and a singe solo block. Last year, he was named to the All-MPSF Honorable Mention Team. This year, being his last, Joe Kauliakamoa continues to play incredibly. He has been a major factor to the teams success. Continue to do what your doing Joe!
