FTB–Cougars Snatch The Armed Forces Bowl

Friday's game was a real thriller to watch especially since the Cougars were trailing behind Tulsa for most of the game. The score came close, but BYU took the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. Once again, Cody Hoffman (#2), former Athlete of the Week, lead the receiving with 122 yards! This kid is unstoppable! The Bowl Game started off with Tulsa scoring the first touchdown from eight yards away. With about fifteen seconds left on the clock in the first quarter, Justin Sorensen (#37) kicked a field goal just to put BYU on the board. Second quarter started with Tulsa scoring again, putting them up 14-3. With about fifteen seconds remaining in the first half, Riley Nelson (#13) threw a 17 yard touch down to Cody Hoffman. Second half kicked off with the Cougars scoring one more with BYU's golden child, Cody Hoffman from thirty yards away, with only about two minutes left in the third quarter. BYU had the game in the bag until Tulsa came back to score one more touchdown, putting them up 21-17. The real nail biter came in this part of the game when the Cougar's had to make a miracle play happen to win this bowl game. Who are they going to call for a job like this? Who else is better then Cody Hoffman? With 11 seconds left in the game, BYU had no desire in giving up yet. They were coming closer and closer with every play. Tulsa knew that if BYU got any closer, then they would score and lose the game, so their strategy of stalling time was to hold on to the player that they tackled for about five seconds more before letting him go. Even with all of that time wasted, from two yards away, Riley Nelson pivots and fakes to the right and sends a perfect pass right to Hoffman, who totally lost his defender and caught the ball to end the game. This moment in the game totally took me back to the Utah State game when there was 11 seconds left in the game, Nelson drove a ball to Marcus Matthews, putting them up three points ahead of Utah State to win the game. BYU took their Bowl Game winning by three points. The final score was 24-21, BYU. This game had some amazing standouts. Of course Cody Hoffman, with 122 yards and eight completed passes, scored all of the touchdowns in the game. Hoffman went on to receive the Armed Forces Bowl Most Outstanding Player for the Cougars. On the defensive side, linebacker Kyle Van Hoy (#3) gave himself 10 tackles. Five were counted for a loss of yards, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a quarterback hurry. Congratulations Cougar's on a big win for the season!
